As required by the Sparkplug Specification data is published on NBIRTH, NDEATH, DBIRTH and DDEATH topics.

The payloads for each of these messages include every metric the device will ever report on and at a minimum must include the name, datatype and current value.

The time taken to to transverse the tag tree and build the BIRTH messages is dependant on variables such as:

  • on the number of tags under the configured transmitter or tag agent Tag Path
  • location of tags - local or in a Remote Tag Provider coming over the GAN

You can speed up the time take to build BIRTH messages by using multiple transmitters or tag agents to reduce the number of tags included in each BIRTH message

If using Injector tag agents, make sure that the ingest service can handle the multiple connections and increase the ingest services as necessary
